For over 30 years, LACA’s National School Meals Week (NSMW) has been raising awareness about the importance of nutritious school meals, with this year’s activities scheduled for 7th – 11th November 2022.
This year, the focus is on the fun and social aspect of school meals, as well as encouraging children to get involved with important environmental issues.
LACA Chair, Brad Pearce, says, “I would like everyone to get involved with this year’s theme ‘together, we make a difference’. We know school meals have such a positive effect on children’s attainment and development, but school caterers are also making a huge impact on green issues, lessening their impact on the planet as together, we tackle environmental issues such as reducing food waste, reducing food miles and increasing the amount of plant based foods children eat”.
The five themed days of ‘making a difference’ include:
Monday 7th November - Together, we make a difference launch – A fun NSMW 2022 day showcasing activities for the week and making a pledge to change
Tuesday 8th November - Go green lunch – A day of plant based menus and how to encourage children to reduce meat intake at least once a week to help the environment
Wednesday 9th November - Our local lunch – A roast dinner day showcasing the best of local British produce, reducing food miles
Thursday 10th November - Eat more, waste less – A day that will educate children on reducing food waste, recycling and composting
Friday 11th November - VIP Day – Whether schools are inviting a VIP or local MP for lunch or just saying thank you to staff a day of celebrating. The final day of the week is a big thank you for the efforts of everyone involved in the school meals industry.
