May 10th marks the start of the annual Coeliac UK’s Awareness Week. This years focus for the campaign is creating new opportunities for earlier diagnosis of coeliac disease in children, but overall to increase awareness of the disease using the social media hashtag #ShineALightOnCoeliac.
Research shows that coeliac disease is common and affects 1 in 100 people. However only 30% who have the condition have been diagnosed, which means there are currently nearly half a million people who have coeliac disease but don’t know yet. If a first degree family member (mother, father, sister or brother) has the condition the chances of having it yourself increase to 1 in 10.
Essential Cuisine Senior Development Chef Jonathan Harvey-Barnes, comments: “The growth in coeliac diners and those choosing to live a gluten-free lifestyle has exploded in recent years. As chefs, we know that it’s a subject that working kitchens take incredibly seriously. Here at Essential Cuisine we are extremely proud of our 100% gluten free range, supplying that extra peace of mind to working kitchens across the country. Not only that, we are ever evolving our recipe bank to include not just gluten free recipes, but recipes that are free from declarable allergens^.”
“Kitchens are time pressured places, which is why many of them turn to high quality, pre-made stocks and sauces as the perfect base of countless menu items. We are here to provide as much support as possible, in addition to our products, to create consistent, great tasting dishes that everyone can enjoy. Below I have listed just a handful of my favourites…”
