North West Young Chef Winner Promoted to Head Chef at Northcote

5th May 2021

At 20 years old, Lancastrian Chef Danny Young was crowned Essential Cuisine’s North West Young Chef of the Year. Cooking up a storm in 2014, he wowed judges with his well-researched and sublimely constructed menu. Danny Young has now been promoted to the role of Head Chef at Northcote, under Executive Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen. In an email from the hotel, he was described as a “loyal and long-serving member of the Northcote kitchen brigade” and “an integral part” of the hotels annual Obsession gastronomic event.

After his triumph in the annual North West Young Chef of the Year competition, Danny said “I can’t believe how much life has changed since winning. It’s been massive! Competitions like North West Young Chef, they can change your career, it helps you gain respect within the industry.” He went on to say, “Throughout my career I’ve always tried to work as hard as I can, but competing and then winning gives you the belief to push yourself and say ‘I can do this’ – if I didn’t I may have just taken a step back and who knows what I’d be doing”.

Having joined the kitchen in 2010 as an apprentice, in 2018 he rocketed to national scale, taking the crown of Young National Chef of the Year.
