Formed in August 1997, the purpose of the Combined Services Culinary Arts Team (CSCAT) is to raise the profile of catering throughout the UK Armed Forces; to develop individual team craft skills and aid the recruitment of personnel into the Armed Forces.
The organisation is made up of the best chefs, selected equally from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army and Royal Air Force to represent the British Armed Forces and the United Kingdom.
Since its formation, CSCAT has earned national and international acclaim for its outstanding success and exceptional performances at some of the most prestigious international and national culinary competitions. Historically, CSCAT has competed in the International Military category at the Culinary World Cup and Culinary Olympics. More recently CSCAT have competed in non-military categories, principally in the Regional Cold Buffet and the Regional Community Catering Challenge.
Essential Cuisine are so proud to have supported the amazing work of CSCAT for several years. The foodservice brand applauds the organisation for their investment in people, by allowing individual team members to take part in cookery competitions such as the Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year and the Kikkoman Masters.
Development Chef, Robin Dudley added, “At Essential Cuisine, we are incredibly proud to be working so closely with the CSCAT team, a remarkably talented group of British Armed forces chefs. To be asked to use our products and knowledge and look at their Culinary Olympic dishes and offer advice on improvements is extremely humbling, but shows how our chefs experience is respected throughout the industry. The kitchen ethos of “still learning” and sharing of knowledge is so prevalent here, and it’s a pleasure to see the team constantly push to get better and improve. It’s always great meeting up with the chefs, and to see their new (hopefully) permanent base in Tidworth coming together is just fantastic. As with all that the armed forces do, the sense of history and pride is palpable, and to be able to play a small part in it is amazing”.
Sergeant Stefan Sewell said, “We have always used Essential Cuisine products and are very proud to have Essential Cuisine as one of our sponsors. The products are perfect for our cold work and give us the consistency we need to enable us to reach the standard of our sauces which we use when competing at the International Culinary Olympics and World Cup. From my point of view, the greatest benefit would be the time saved in making stocks and glaces, especially with skeleton manning. Why not use a guaranteed product which will not only be delicious but time effective to your kitchen brigade?”
