WHO’S SUNDAY LUNCH TOPS THE BILL ?

Essential Cuisine’s No1 Gravy, a huge hit in the pub sector, is pouring with pride after signing up to sponsor Sunday Lunch of the Year at this year’s Publican Food & Drink Awards 2009.

No 1 Beef GravyThe award, due to be presented at a high profile awards ceremony in November, will go to a pub which makes a speciality of the important Sunday dining occasion, whether it’s brunch or the full Sunday roast. It will focus heavily on product quality and service.

Last year’s winner The Chaser Inn from Tonbridge, Kent, won for its dedication to serving quality dishes in the kind of relaxed environment customers expect from Sunday lunch in a pub.

The menu, bar roasts that are permanent fixtures, changes each week, with a strong focus on freshness and traceable ingredients, including beef sirloin, stuffed leg of lamb and half-roast barn chickens, running alongside an a la carte menu.

Essential Cuisine’s No1 Gravy, now available in 3663, is sponsoring the award of part of its mission to supply operators with ‘gravy as it should be’, made with the essential ingredients of good stock and meat dripping, and not laden with hydrogenated fat, MSG and artificial preservatives.

The Publican Food & Drink Awards, launched in 2007, celebrate the best and most professional pub operators at a time when the industry is feeling the pressure from both the weight of regulation and the credit crunch.

Last year’s event, hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre at Battersea Evolution, saw 20 awards presented to outstanding pubs, pub companies, licensees and staff for their remarkable achievements in pub retailing.
